Dear Puma Families,

Spring is SPRINGING at Park Crest Middle School.  All in all, things are going well, but I want to make you aware that vapes made a presence on our campus this week and were caught.  We have been fortunate at Park Crest to not run into many this year, but I want to talk to you about it, not just because students get in trouble for them, but because they are dangerous.  Please contact your Assistant Principal or school counselor if you have questions about this matter or are concerned.  Round Rock ISD posted this on their website with some articles.  Vapes

Dear Puma Families,

We are on our final leg of the race…the last nine weeks of school.   Each quarter of the school year possesses its challenges.  At the beginning, we are getting to know our students and reacclimating to schedules, demands, rules, and friendships.  The second nine weeks is when things get a bit “real”.  UIL eligibility sets in for our seventh and eighth graders, school gets a little harder, we just had our first fall out with a friend, and we are looking forward to a break.  After Winter Break, we meet back together and relearn all we forgot over the two weeks, the weather gets cold, hot, cold, hot, rainy, hot, cold, windy, and Spring Break is looming out there somewhere.  Spring Break gives us a nice pause to gather ourselves, clean out a closet, take a trip, a nap, or a moment for ourselves and then we return to school for the last leg.  The last leg of the race is FAST.  There is something ALL of the time.  An event, a grade, a project, a STAAR test, something is always happening.  What it also brings is an uptick  in student behavior.  My experience has taught me this:

  • The weather changes and we all want to be outside.
  • Students take risks they didn’t take before and behavior increases.
  • Students are overwhelmed much like us and there is too much all at once.
  • Eighth graders are almost ninth graders - they are uneasy about next year and that some of their friends, maybe their best friend is heading to a neighboring school.  The feeling will come through.
  • STAAR test brings up anxiety for students and school personnel.

What can we do?

  • Be patient with our students and ourselves.
  • Remind your children to stay focused and kind.
  • Stay on a schedule - this helps me too!
  • Check their agenda daily for upcoming assignments.
  • Keep in contact with their teachers and send them to tutorials.
  • Stay strong!  We can do this!!!

Wednesday, Mar. 26:

  • Soccer Game vs. WVMS Boys Home/Girls Away
  • CAAC Meeting 6:00 PM
